Car dealers are a great first point of call when looking for a car, but make sure you do your research before visiting them. The first thing you need to decide on is what dealer to visit. There are bound to be dozens in and around your area, all offering different makes, models, deals and services.
Official dealers who are affiliated with a particular manufacturer are often the most reliable out there, and offer you protection and ongoing care after you drive away. Official outlets inspect and carry out maintenance work on cars which they sell, and can offer you things like warranties and roadside assistance. They can be more expensive than other outlets, but can also give you more peace of mind.
A franchised car dealer can also give you more peace of mind than an independent one, but they might not be able to offer you everything that an official car dealer can. Franchised outlets are of course part of a chain, and having a reputation to protect means that you should expect a high level of service. They can be cheaper than official car dealers, but bear in mind that stock won’t have passed the manufacturer’s used car inspections.
Independent dealers are often cheaper than both official and franchised dealers, but you won’t get the same reassurance that buying from a larger company can give you. But of course, just because a dealer is independent doesn’t mean that they’re going to be unreliable, and if you’re clever about negotiating you can get a good deal.
Independent car dealers won’t have the same amount of money as the bigger dealerships, and that might reflect in the quality of their cars, and the things that the dealer can offer. If you’re prepared and do your research though, you can find some great, reputable, independent car dealers out there, just waiting for you to stop by.
The great thing about all of these outlets is that you can see the cars up close and take your short listed ones for a test drive. After all, you won’t know if a car is the perfect one for you until you’re sitting behind the wheel. And going for a test drive through a dealership means that you don’t have the added hassle of having to sort out temporary insurance, because the dealership should cover you.
Car dealers are also great if you’ve not quite decided on what model you want, because there is usually a varied selection of makes, models and prices. Take your time to look at everything, but at the same time, don’t give the impression that you’re indecisive.
The key to securing a great deal on your new car is to do your research and be fully prepared when going to a car dealer.
